The Old Man Speaks

Judith Moore with Zach in Chimayo

J. Zach came by to visit, he lives up in Durango and was a co creator in the Gathering of the Eagles. As we sat down to visit I started feeling a lot of energy coming in and when I centered and thanked it, I saw multitudes, many, many ancestor spirits that were called by the Gathering of the Eagles. I was told to hand him the Peace Bundle.

The Old Man is the keeper most ancient indigenous wisdom known to the people of Earth. The Old Man and The Old Woman are the Grandmother and Grandfather spirits off the Earth. He is the keeper of the lodges of power that are the doorways to other worlds. He guides the holy people when they journey beyond this world.. He is not of this world however. He walks on the pathways to the Star Lodges and is a keeper of the Wisdom in the Star Councils. He is a Guardian of Creation. He has many names in many languages. He is of the Oneness and is part of All That Is. When you seek wisdom that is true spirit wisdom he is there. He sees the greater pattern of Creation and knows the way things must flow to be in harmony with Universal Oneness. The Earth has memory, she knows all that has transpired since her Creation.

The Old Man Speaks:

I am the Old Man. I am as ancient as eternity. I came to this place in Creation before there were stories to tell, before there were rites of passage and traditions that unite the mythologies of the many nations of the people of Earth.

I came to this place in Creation and I began to beat my drum. My drum beat echoed through the emptiness of everything. I beat my drum in rhythm with the heart beat of Creation. And the sound of my drum beat echoed through the emptiness of time.

The rhythm created sources of life. The rhythm was the first drum beat of the people when they gathered to pray. In that time before time, it was the rhythm of my drum beat that sat the tempo for the rhythm that connects humans to spirit.

The rhythm of my drum beat was felt by the people and they gathered and at first they beat the drum upon their heart with their hand. They felt the rhythm and they beat their drum on their chest over their heart. And in this way they began to feel the movement and their feet began to dance to the rhythm. They created percussion instruments, drums and sticks that were banged together and rattles so that that rhythm had place in their world.

So the first people had a way to feel the power of it all and the rhythm of the drum beat that echoes from the heart beat of Creation. The first people lived by the power of that rhythm, knowing it to be true because it felt good and natural for their bodies when they danced to the drum beat, when they moved together in the harmony to the power that they created in their traditions, the diversity of the many nations, in their mythologies and their ceremonies.

Each of the ancient ones, each of the many nations, their cultures have their own rhythm. Those rhythms, if you were to listen, even though their dances and their songs were different, you would find that the rhythm of my drum beat, beat at the center of sacred ceremony.

For a long time that rhythm helped the people to stay in balance with the axis of their body and the axis of the Earth.

The indigenous people who carried forth the drum beat generation after generation, lived by the rhythm of my drum, from the heart of Creation. And then the drums were silenced and the drums that beat were war drums of either side of conflict. The drums became the ra ta ta tat and the quick beat of war cry, scattering the rhythm, destroying, scattering the rhythm and breaking up the harmony of the beat of my drum.

For a time there were a few places of this Earth were my drum would beat the rhythm of the indigenous people and their ceremonies. Fewer and fewer of the indigenous people gathered in ceremony and beat the sacred drum. Their traditions were destroyed by the war drums.
I slept deep in the cave like a bear, hibernating for the winter. I slept a long time and I did not beat my drum and the heart of the Earth Mother felt it. She felt it in her heart because of all those times of the relationship of the 2 leggeds to the Earth and their ceremonies. Because my drum beat that beat, the rhythm of life. It strengthened her heart. When the drum beats stopped her body became tired from all the crying of the children and the hunger and the sorrow.

Then I heard the raven call. The raven who had brought the fire of Creation to the womb of the Mother. It was the call of the raven that awakened me. Caw caw caw. I shook off my sleep and I looked around me and where there had been rivers and valleys and streams, there were cities. Thick, dark air filled the skies and the water in so many of the rivers was brown. I shook off my sleep and I looked around and the people, so many of the Native tradition, people forgot their myths, their stories and they were forgetting their ceremonies. I beat my drum and I called the ancestor spirits.

I called the ancestors to return.

I woke them up. I helped them to remember. I called the eagles. I called the (intense energy) bald eagle, the white eagle, the spotted eagle, the golden eagle and they came from the 4 directions. The calling of the eagles and the drums beat, again in Pa Sapa and the heart of Pa Sapa. The drums beat awakening the ancestor's spirits and it began. It began at the calling of the Gathering of the Eagles. It began clear across the sacred earth, in Africa , Hawaii, and New Zeland. It began in Europe and on Turtle Island.

It began and across the many lands, I beat my drum to awaken the Dogon, the Maury, Seneca, Cheyenne and the many Nations came to the Tree of Life. I beat my drum and I beat my drum and the rhythm was felt in the heart of the Earth Mother. And the rhythm was felt by the heart of the people and they gathered and a great call went out to stand for the sake of the Earth.

Hear the drum beat and pray.

I am the Old Man. I shall beat my drum until the balance returns and I shall not sleep.
