The Storks

Recently I was driving on the highway in a southern direction with my attention on the road and my thoughts. All of a sudden, as if being stung by a bee, my attention was drawn to something totally different. On top of a lamppost I saw a stork. This is a sign, it flashed through my mind. How amazing, a stork in late August when they are preparing for their migration to South Africa. Seeing the bird reminded me of another day in spring a number of years ago.

It is a warm Wednesday afternoon and I am taking a friend to an appointment at a clinic. It is situated in a beautiful area. I decide not to wait inside till she is finished, but to go outside to explore the neighbourhood. I choose a sandy path and enjoy the rural surroundings. It's warm and cloudy and occasionally there are a few raindrops. I ponder on laying down under a tree somewhere. Because it looks like it might be going to rain, I decide to walk back.

When I arrive at the last pasture, I see a stork all of a sudden. I stop and see how she walks a few steps through the pasture. She then flies up and lands a bit further in the same pasture. I follow her with my eyes. Suddenly a thought pops up: ‘maybe I can find a stork feather there’. I’m doubtful whether I should crawl under the barbed wire or not, but I do it anyway. I walk to the first spot where I saw the stork and look around, searching for a feather. What a pitty, there is no feather here, so I walk to the second spot. There is no feather either. In the meantime the stork flies away to another pasture. She also walks around over there for a while and I see how she parades without hesitation between the cows.

I give up my search for a stork feather and walk back to the barbed wire. Before I crawl under the wire, I turn my head once more and see that the stork has landed again in the pasture I am in. I look at her and telepathically ask for a feather. The stork flies up, makes a wonderful circle high over the trees and then lands....... on her nest! I had not seen that yet! Well, that will be the place for me to find feathers. I walk to the other side of the pasture, crawl under the barbed wire over there and walk to the pole the nest is resting on. I am looking around between the spruces in a small circle around the nest and yes, there I find a feather. A white one, dirty, but still a stork feather! Spontaneously another thought comes to me: ‘I want to have three feathers’. I look up and the stork is still on her nest and follows me with her eyes. I walk in a bigger circle around the nest and when I am back at the barbed wire, yes, yes, yes! I see two more stork feathers, black this time! This is quite wonderful. I am thanking the stork from the bottom of my heart. With this precious gift I walk back to my car. The minute I am laying the feathers in the car, it slowly starts to rain. Because I do not like to wait in the car I am looking around for a shelter. I see an open barn where I can stay dry and when I am almost there it starts to splash.

When my friend is ready and after showing her the stork's nest, she can still see the bird, we continue our way. I am taking a different route and on the way back the sun begins to shine. After many kilometers we are driving by a village and all of a sudden I again see a stork, on top of a lamp post. Well, that is quite special, two storks in one day. Noteworthy.

We continue our scenic route, passing even more small villages and enjoy the surroundings. Everything is starting to sprout, the green is greener than ever. We are looking around and around. Suddenly again I see a stork's nest about ten meters from the road with … yes, with how many storks actually, three, four, five!? I stop, reverse and park the car. Then we see that there is a mature stork with three little ones on the nest. The little ones are eating enthusiastically. The parent apparently has just brought the children tasty snacks. We observe them for a while before driving away.

It is incredible: on one day six storks at considerable distances from each other and three stork feathers, three for body, soul and spirit. A six star day. Traditionally seeing a stork is a blessing and the announcement of a new birth. A lot has changed in my life since then.

Now I see a stork, again. For a while
I have been feeling that change is coming in my life. Seeing this stork is a confirmation of my feelings. The meaning of the east direction where I saw her, is that it is a positive change. The funny thing is that I am driving to a meeting that is launching this change.
